Baltimore Lab School’s purposeful use of technology allows students of all abilities to participate more fully in the classroom and beyond. SmartBoards, laptops, and Chromebooks are used to overcome challenging tasks that can be barriers for our students. Students start by building a foundation: learning how to type and leveraging graphic organizers to help with executive function, organizing themselves on Google Classroom and receiving feedback from peers and teachers, and eventually increasing their skills to include making videos to demonstrate their learning to using VR technology to enhance their learning experiences. Software programs such as Google Read & Write may be used to read highlighted text aloud to help students process content through visual and auditory learning. Students can dictate words to help overcome handwriting and spelling difficulties and help organize their notes more easily.
